Will I be speaking the fact if I said that content creators in Nigeria are the latest celebrities? The likes of Shanks Comics, Brodda Shaggi, Sabinus, Nasboi, and Lasisi Elenu have gone beyond just making skits, some are musicians, some are actors and some are into both. I have grown to like most of these content creators so much that I follow them on all their social media platforms and they have never disappointed me.
In this post, I’m going to list my top favorite content creators in Nigeria and how far they’ve come in the entertainment industry.
My Top Favorite Content Creators in Nigeria
In no special order, the following content creators are my top favorite content creators in Nigeria:
#1. Samuel Animashaun Perry (Brodda Shaggi)
Brodda Shaggi has remained consistent for the past 7 years and counting. When he is not shooting skits, he is either writing and recording songs or featuring in Nollywood movies. Brodda Shaggi’s “Fine Boy Agbero” album, which he dropped in the year 2020 has quite some hit songs including “Okoto” ft Zlatan Ibile. He also did a song with Faz the Bahd Guy titled “Cross My Lane”.
Brodda Shaggi has proven not only to be a good musician but also a great actor. He is a two-time Best Actor in a Comedy, Movie, or TV Series winner at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
Back to being one of my favorite content creators in Nigeria, Brodda Shaggi has some funny catchphrases that most Nigerians use today. Whenever you hear “Oya hit me” E shock you!? and ‘my bad, I take full responsibility”, know that fine boy agbero, melanin black skin boy, as he usually introduces himself, is in the building. The humor is not just in the phrases but in the way he says it. I don’t know about you guys, but I loooooor Brodda Shaggi a lot
#2 Nasboi (Lawal Michael Nasiru)
This guy has to be your favorite, too. According to him, Nasboi had always wanted to become a musician but figured he had other talents. He started by mimicking Davido, which made him go viral and was referred to as “low-budget Davido”. Nasboi is known for playing several characters in his skits, namely, Papa Bosco, Ejike Cambodia, Akpan, Bosco, and many others.
This skit below remains one of my best of Nasboi’s skits.
After he became famous as a skit maker, Nasboi decided to pursue his dream of becoming a musician, which he has proven to be very good at with his recent singles, Umbrella, and Small Money. While we wait for his album, which he promises to be second to none, by the way, we will continue to enjoy his role in Nollywood and his funny skits.
#3. Lasisi Elenu
“Hello everybody, Brah Laisi is here again, something just happened right now. Honestly speaking, I am angry! My anger can burst pimples!”. It’s the way he says these lines and the face he makes when saying them that always gets me laughing every single time. I started watching Lasis Elenu’s skit in 2018 when he was all about “Brah Segun calling him by 5:45 am”. I’m always curious to know what Brah Segun did this time around
Lasis has remained consistent ever since with so many skits on the internet. Today, just like Nasboi and Taooma, he portrays several other characters, too. This ability to be able to portray different characters proves the artist to be a genius.
Away from being my favorite content creator, Lasis is also my idol. I love him for his intellectual capacity and his fashion sense. I believe if he wasn’t already into comedy and skit-making, he would have been successful as a model and a professor. Oh and by the way, Lasisi killed it in the Razz Guy movie. He is a great actor, too.
#4. Brain Jotter (Chukwuebuka Emmanuel Amuzie)
Born actor and comedian popularly known as Brain Jotter has won many of our hearts with his style of content. His signature outfit and his nonchalant attitude backed up with “Getaaat abeg” are the most interesting. I didn’t forget his dance steps, too. Hilarious!
It is alleged that he has the highest number of followers across all social media platforms. BrainJotter has a lot of movies on YouTube, namely:
- Accidental Manager
- The Gang Leader
- The Mystery Robbery
- Trapped Souls
- Accidental King
Brain Jotter recently shut down Transcorp Hilton, Abuja where he raised millions for some of the attendees. What a philanthropist he is. You may not know this, but BrainJotter is also a motivational speaker. I was at a program earlier this year at Awka, where he spoke on the topic, Digital Awakening. His ideologies and views will inspire you.
#5. Shanks Comics (Adesokan Adedeji Emmanuel)
Shank Comics is a Nigerian actor, comedian, and media influencer. He is known for his slogan Lit Gang Shiii and Hmmmm Oporrr”, which are the most used in his skits to date. According to him, Shanks is a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University where he studied Electrical Electrician; quite an interesting course if you ask me. He said that he ran away from his Father’s house and started doing skits till his major hit—well, I’m glad that worked out for him
I’ve taken my time to watch Shank’s content and I always find them funny and interesting. He’s the first content creator who has introduced a different kind of content to his craft. I’m talking about spending the whole night in the wild forest, randomly selecting a fan, and spending the whole day with them.
He was also the only content creator who took the initiative of collaborating with Kai Cenat, the famous American YouTuber who came to Nigeria on Davido’s invitation. In all, I believe I will be speaking for you and many others who follow Shank’s content that he is one of the greatest content creators in Nigeria.
#6. Sabinus (Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu)
Of course, the list would be incomplete without the “investor” himself. Mr. Funny or Oga Sabinus, is undoubtedly the most loved content creator in Nigeria and across. One thing we always look out for in every of his content is the part where he becomes unfortunate even though he’d always start as smart and all calculative.
Oga Sabinus has some funny catchphrases and lines that most of us now use. ‘Sometin Hoooge’ is on everyone’s lips and ‘Good afternoon, How is the family’ is now my thing. Whenever I want to ask for a favor from a colleague at work, I’d start by greeting them and then “how’s the family” part. Sabinus, you do this one.
Sabinus has proceeded to acting movies too. Some of the movies he has featured in are:
- A Bag of Trouble
- Home & Away
- Dead Serious
- Sabinus the Best Man
I have seen Dead Serious and Sabinus the Best Man, and all I can say is that Sabinus na werey for real. Big shout out to Mr. Funny for he is funny indeed.
#7. Josh2Funny (Josh Alfred Chibuike)
Resurrection power! Josh is a very talented young man, who plays different characters in his content. He was in Owerri for the SMFest program in October 2023 where he talked about how consistency brought him where he is currently.
The most ground-breaking moment in his career was when he made it to America’s Got Talent Show, where he played the trick of the fastest reader and rapper in the world. The most rib-cracking moment for me was when he said that he was going to buy a million dollars worth of books if he won. With the way the audience cheered for Josh toward the end of his performance, you could tell that he has won their hearts in America just like he has won ours here in Nigeria
Before the talent show, Josh had gone viral for his creativity, one of which was the #Don’tLeaveMe Challenge. I have found myself enjoying every of Josh’s content and I hope he continues dropping them back to back. In Brodda Shaggi’s voice, “We loooooor you, Josh2funny!”
#8. Sydney Talker (The Towel Guy)
Sydney Egere, popularly known as Syndey Talker is one of the OGs of content creators in Nigeria. Burna Boy acknowledged his talent after Syndey turned a moment of a picture with him into full video content. Recall that Sydney did something similar where he featured Davido, but the difference with the one with Burna Boy is that it was totally unplanned, according to Burna Boy.
The recognition from the African Giant himself has indeed impacted Syndey’s career as a content creator and as a label owner. Speaking of which, Sydney Talker is the CEO of NevilleRecords Music Label, with young Khaid as his first and only artiste yet.
